         ABOUT ME

For more than twenty years now, I have worked in Scotland as a successful sculptor in wood. My work has covered many themes, religious, wildlife, maritime and historical. One of my best loved sculptures is still Tam and Meg, from the poem by Robert Burns, a life size carving specially commissioned for the Tam O' Shanter Experience in Alloway. But carvings begin with a sketch, and recently I have found myself spending all my time painting, especially in acrylics.  Recently, I have been working on a series of ‘period pieces’  exploring traditional Scottish urban, rural and seaside pastimes: football games in city parks, families at play on the beach etc.

Vivid colour fascinates me, as do figures moving and interacting within bright landscapes. The potential for a kind of storytelling within the picture also interests me enormously, perhaps because wood sculpture is so very different.
